Ever since I have known her, she has been in love with the original Disney animated movie. Belle has been one of her biggest influences since she was a little girl. Not only has Belle made a huge impact on who she is, but Emma Watson has been as well! So you can only imagine her excitement when Emma Watson was set to play the bookworm princess herself!

A few months before the movie was set to release in theaters, my friend came to me with an idea of making Belle's peasant dress from the new movie, I REALLY wanted to make it happen for her. I've never really made a costume for anyone else, and I was so excited to take on the challenge. I immediately tried to gather as many pictures from the movie as I could, I wanted to make it as screen accurate as possible. While Sarah (my friend), started searching for the perfect fabrics, I took on the search for patterns.

Patterns
I took a look onto burdastyle.com , one of my favorite resources for patterns due to their low prices and instant downloads! I felt like I hit the gold mine when I found their vast collection of dirndl dresses. I sent a few different links to Sarah, and she ultimately decided on this one , which was a great choice. I was able to print it out and start looking at what I needed to change within the pattern to get the results we wanted.

First, I knew that the front bodice seams needed some re-adjusting. The middle piece was too narrow, I wanted the seam to lay a little further out, right next to the straps.

This very middle seam is a bit too narrow for the look we wanted, so I extended it right next to the strap.

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

Not much of a change, but it really helped with accuracy! Also, if you look at Emma's dress, it is clear that she has an extra "flap" of fabric that is sewn into the front right seam, wrapped around to the other side. For this, I traced the section of the bodice pattern pieces that would be covered by the extra flap, with tracing pattern paper. I added a seam allowance all around this new piece for the reason that I would use two layers of fabric. I also had to make a new piece for the part that the flap would attach to. I traced the back half of the side front piece, again adding seam allowance due to double layers of fabric that would be used. Ultimately, this piece would be sewn into the left side seam.

Left side front piece

For the skirt pattern piece, the directions have you draft it yourself since it is just a large rectangle. I wanted the skirt to lay just above Sarah's ankles, so I added ten inches to the length of the original drafted measurements. I used the apron pattern piece, but simply sewed it onto matching bias binding for a more simple appearance.

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">

As you may notice, I did not use the dirndl's sleeves, or the part that peeks out above the bodice. I used a separate pattern, also from Burdastyle, of a drapey, thin shirt. You can find the pattern here. This shirt is pretty simple to assemble, as there are no notions, interfacing, or closures to be installed. The sleeves lay just above the wrist, and the neck is a little draped.

For the towel strap, i made blue bias binding out of the same fabric as the bodice and skirt, and sewed the two towels into it, folded over the ends, and stitched a line all the way down.

Fabrics
Sarah did all of the shopping for the fabrics, the main color is a medium blue cotton or cotton blend fabric. The middle of the bodice is a red floral calico cotton or cotton blend fabric. the extra flap on the front of the bodice was made out of a terry cloth-like fabric that I had in my stash. The apron was a dark blue and white plaid cotton fabric. For the shirt we used some old curtains that were white and very sheer, Sarah had these leftover and it truly worked so well!

Notions
Interfacing for the whole inside of the bodice (I pieced together used dryer sheets because I'm thrifty like that)

7-9" invisible zipper dark blue (skirt)

7-9" separating zipper dark blue (bodice)

Fourteen 5/32" Eyelets (Get the tool kit if you don't have the tool already)- bodice

Red and white yarn (bodice)

Blue thread

White thread

Two towels similar to Belle's

Construction

Bodice
Once I had the pattern pieces figured out I was able to begin the construction of the dress. I used the new pattern pieces to cut out my fabric. Before sewing up the bodice, I placed the flap fabric right sides facing, sewed at the 5/8 seam allowance that I added, trimmed the allowance, and turned it right side out. I ironed the flap and then top stitched all around at 1/2". I did the same thing with the attachment flap piece. Both pieces were then sandwiched into their corresponding seams on the bodice, pinned, and then sewn together. I followed the rest of the directions on the pattern as they were. When attaching the lining I was sure not to catch the extra flaps that I added. I also skipped sewing the straps together since I will be adding eyelets and lacing through them.

Skirt
The original pattern builds the outfit as a connected dress, instead of doing that I made the skirt separate from the top. To do this, I simply added a typical waist band to the skirt, still keeping the original slit for the zipper.

Other than these changes, I followed the patterns as written.

Here are a few pictures of the finished product with the princess herself!

Well, I finally did it, I went to my first con with one of my hand made costumes! I'm a little late to the game, but I'm so glad that I finally had enough courage to go. STL Comicon was hosted by Mighty Con at the St. Charles Convention Center.

My boyfriend and I arrived to the convention around one o'clock, I wore my Starfire costume that I made last summer (still need to write her own post). I was so nervous/excited that my body was shaking, I didn't know what to expect. We entered and waited in line to receive our wrist bands from the pre-ordered ticket line. Once we received our wristbands, we were able to go in the convention hall. It was so wonderful, this place was filled with amazing artists, vendors, and cosplayers. Many people asked me for pictures, as well as me asking them for pictures. Everyone was literally so nice and courteous, I was overwhelmed with acceptance! It is truly such an amazing feeling to hear face to face how people appreciate my work and the effort I put into my cosplay. Once, after taking a picture with one guy in particular, I heard him say to his friend as they were walking away, "That is the best Starfire cosplayer I have ever seen." This brought me so much joy, I can't even describe it. I loved talking to the other cosplayers and appreciating their costumes, and taking pictures with my favorite characters!

After a few hours, three of my friends showed up, Amanda, Sarah and Dustin, two of which were also cosplaying. Sarah dressed in her newly bought 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast ballgown, and Amanda was dressed as Rey from Star Wars. It was so exciting to have them there with me at my first con (they've both been to one before). Aaron had a good time with Dustin being there, they're in love.

The five of us walked around the whole con, viewing all the artists' work and the awesome props that were being sold. I ended up purchasing a beautiful print of Ariel from an artist named TriStarr, you can follow him on his Facebook page here! I love this piece so much and can't wait to find the perfect place for it in my sewing room.

I also saw some handmade Negan bats that I realllly wanted, but I figured I could make one myself if I really wanted to, and I do!

As the day came to a close, we all went outside to the water fountain and took pictures. My friend Amanda got some really great shots of me in my costume, which is always such a value to cosplayers. This con really opened my eyes, and I am so excited to go to more! I have been searching like a mad man for any kind of convention, large or small, around the St. Louis area.

I realize that this has nothing to do with cosplay, or sewing, but I have to share the plunge that I took into a full head of blue hair! I have ALWAYS wanted a full head of luscious bright blue locks, something about it just makes me feel so magical and unstoppable. It seemed as though everything got in the way of my wish, such as theater activities in high school, jobs, jobs and more jobs! Luckily, I now have the summers off due to working at an elementary school and I can do what I want for 2.5 months!

I bought the supplies I needed a few weeks in advanced, eager to get started. I headed over to Sally's Beauty Supply and bought a mixing bowl and a tinting brush. I also bought the small packet of Salon Care Lightening Blue bleach powder, and the small bottle of Salon Care 40 Volume developer. I went ahead and picked up Manic Panic's Virgin Snow toner. Since Sally's didn't have the Manic Panic colors I wanted, I went ahead and ordered Atomic Turquoise, Voodoo Blue, and Blue moon on Amazon.

If I were to do this process again, I would have bought more bleaching powder and used the full bottle of my developer (I only used half the developer due to directions). Before I bleached my hair, I coated it in coconut oil the night before and slept in it. I am always afraid of damage, so i do my best to minimize it. I bleached my hair and left it on for about 45 minutes. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as light as expected and it was a little patchy, leaving some parts pretty dark. If I had more on my head, I'm sure I would have got a more even application. After rinsing and drying, I put on the violet toner, this did very little due to the fact that my hair had more orange tones than yellow. I left it alone for that night. The next morning I washed my hair, without conditioning, to make it more accepting of the dye. After it was dry, I put aquaphor around my hair line and ears, put on my gloves, and I was ready to go. I simply took random strips of my hair and alternated colors each time. Once my hair was completely covered, I wrapped it up on a plastic grocery bag and let it sit for about two hours. I rinsed it out with cold water, poured a cup of white vinegar through my hair (they say that locks the color in), let it dry and BAM! These beautiful results:

Now, i will warn you, Atomic Turquoise fades FAST. I did everything to keep the color in, vinegar after dying, using only cold water when washing, washing as little as possible, using dry shampoo, but that part of my hair faded into a pale green within a week. I had so much left over, due to buying three different colors, so I decided to touch it up by just using one jar at a time all over my head. I used the rest of the Atomic Turquoise for my first touch up, again, faded with in a week of super high precautions. Six days after I touched up with atomic turquoise, I touched up again with the rest of the Voodoo Blue color and this lasted really well, compared to the Atomic Turquoise. It was still pretty vibrant after about three weeks, especially on the ends, but I decided to freshen up my look with more natural style.

Overall, I think that manic panic is a great brand if you are looking for something pretty temporary. Some colors in the brand last longer than others, but everyone's hair is different! Play around until you find something that works for you. :)

For the past month I have been working on these cute and quirky Poppy hats! I've yet to see the movie Trolls, but it seems to be very popular among the kiddos (I'm always in the know, with being an elementary school teacher and all).

Back in March, my cousin sent me some Pinterest posts and asked if I would be able to re-create this hat. I simply Google searched for a pattern, and found this amazing woman's blog who created the pattern for this hat. She is so talented, I wouldn't even know where to begin with making such an intricate crochet pattern! She provides various sizes, and detailed instructions including videos! You can find the pattern here.

I gathered the supplies that I needed for the project, which most I already had, and took on the task. The first two hats were requested by my cousin for her child and her friend's child. Once those were finished, I posted the above picture on Facebook and received another request! So yet again, I was spending my evenings weaving yarn to replicate Poppy's head! I really should watch the movie, since I feel so close to her now.

You can purchase your own Poppy hat here!

From the first moment I saw this dress on the big screen, I knew I had to make it! It is so unlike any other princess dress I’ve seen, with all the details and box pleats and just EVERYTHING!! The problem was, I had absolutely no idea where to begin, or how to construct this dress. I put off the project for a long time until I came across the adult Frozen costume pattern by Simplicity. Following the pattern, I constructed the bodice with black velvet, black lining, boning, and green bias binding (I made myself) for the trim. I used a matching green cotton and decorative lace for the sleeves. I made this dress before I had a machine that could embroider images larger the 4″ so I hand embroidered the design on the bodice. Although, the result is awesome, I accidentally used the concept art bodice design rather than the screen version. OH WELL!

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Skirt

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Following the pattern, I constructed the skirt with three different colors of green cotton. From what I can remember, this skirt took a while to make, but wasn’t too complicated. Once it was fully completed, I started working on the designs. WOW, this took so much patience and time. I followed the pattern’s technique of tracing the designs onto paper backed fusible webbing, ironed the webbing onto the fabric, used an Xacto knife to cut out the designs from the fabric, then strategically ironed the pieces onto the skirt. The designs looked pretty good, but after a while some of them began to fall off. Later on, once I bought a machine that could embroider larger designs, I took off the iron on pieces and embroidered with the design I bought from this etsy shop. It looks so much better!! 😀

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I was also having trouble with the pleats gaping open and just not sitting right, so I used a zigzag stitch going all they way down each side of the decorated panel, onto the inside panel.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

The easiest part! I bought some black flats at Wal-mart and used gold bias binding around the opening of the shoe. The first time I painted on the design, but once I got my embroidery machine, I embroidered the design onto black fabric and glued it onto the shoes.

<span style="background-color: black; color: #6fa8dc; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px;">So, now I will walk you through my second attempt at making my Princess Anna travel dress cosplay. One day I looked at what I had made and just decided that it wasn’t good enough and that I could do better (I feel strongly about Anna). I started my research all over, trying to find good reference photos, advice and notes from other cosplayers, and taking my time<span style="background-color: black; color: #6fa8dc; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px;">. I had no deadline to meet this time so I promised myself not to rush through it.

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
You can view my first attempt here.

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Originally, I had bought the new pattern from Simplicity of the adult frozen costumes. At first glance I was really excited to have everything in one package, but taking a closer look, I realized that the costume was constructed as one piece. I had started making the dress using this pattern, but then my boyfriend convinced me that it would probably be too costumey. I really wanted an authentic and professional look, so I opted to find separate patterns that would work.

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
During my search, i found a fantastic blog of a woman who makes some amazing costumes! Tracy’s Costuming World her construction notes helped me so much, and I used a lot of the patterns that she suggested.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Bodice

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I pretty much followed Tracy’s advice on the bodice. I used the Simplicity 2851 pattern, but altered it just as she did to create a sweet heart neckline and squaring the angels in the back. I used a velvet black fabric and black lining fabric, but no coutil. I sewed channels in the liner for the boning. I also used ready made gold bias binding for the gold trim. At the time, I absolutely loved having a zipper in the back instead of lacing it up. Although, the bodice has become looser from wear, or losing weight, so I took out the zipper and added eyelets with my sewing machine and used a shoe lace as the lace, for a tighter fit.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Blouse

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I used a light blue cotton fabric and found a pattern with a mandarin collar, here. I did my best to follow Tracy’s velcro closure technique, but mine ended up not being very functional. It would pull strangely and pucker where you could see the velcro. Later on, I ended up adding buttons, which made the blouse a lot more functional. If I were to remake the shirt, I would use a stretchy cotton fabric. I also added the embroidered details this time around, just as Tracy did.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Skirt

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
For this part, I took on my own search to patterns to find one with the pleats that Anna’s skirt has. My boyfriend, Aaron, found this pattern. It is so close to what I needed! All I had to do was lengthen it a bit.

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I needed a way to achieve the scalloped edge with the two different colors of blue. I used a cotton fabric (I learned my lesson last time), so I had to find a way to create the the scalloped edge and be able to finish it so that it wouldn’t fray. I went back to the frozen pattern from simplicity and used their pattern piece and technique for the scalloped edge.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Hat

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This time, for the hat, I used the Frozen pattern from Simplicity. I don’t think that its really accurate, but it looks cute and functions way better than the last one. It has ribbon that ties around your chin so it stays on!

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Mittens

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I don’t remember the exact pattern I used, but I just google searched for a free mittens sewing pattern and used light blue fleece.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Cape

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I kept my old cape that I made from the McCalls Frozen Pattern, but I took out the old pom poms I had in there and put dark purple ones in. I also added the decorative trim with felt, just like Tracy.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-size: 4.5rem; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Embroidery

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
One of the biggest reasons I decided to re-make this cosplay was because I purchased a sewing machine that can embroider much bigger designs! I found and purchased almost all of the designs at this etsy store! I couldn’t find an embroidery design for the hat, so I just did that by hand.

<h1 style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; clear: both; font-family: "cherry swash", sans-serif; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -2px; line-height: 1.15; margin: 0px 0px 0.3em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Boots

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I used the same boots, but painted over the yellow with black. I embroidered the boot design onto black fabric, cut the designs out and hot glued them to the boots.

<div style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
To sum it all up, I am very happy with the outcome of my new and improved Princess Anna cosplay. The only thing I’m trying to decide now is if I should buy a wig for it!

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I believe I would consider this costume my first legitimate cosplay! I’ve re-created and added to this cosplay many times, just trying to make it as perfect as I could. Like many others, I fell in love with Frozen, particularly Princess Anna. She is the first princess that I have connected so deeply with since Ariel! For me, that’s saying a lot, Ariel is mah gurrrll.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
My very first go-around with this costume was back in the spring of 2014, my plan was to be Anna for Halloween. I unknowingly plunged into an extremely detailed and tedious project that would take a very long time to complete. Although, this first attempt was not very accurate, I was extremely satisfied with it at the time. Other than using it for Halloween events of the year, I started doing Frozen birthday parties with my sister and my friends, Sarah and Linda! It was a very neat and fulfilling experience that I wish I still had time for. I’ll never forget all the happy little faces that lit up when they saw Elsa and Anna walk through their doors.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I used various different patterns for this first attempt at the travel dress. For the bodice, I used Butterick B5935. I believe would be a great choice for anyone to use, IF they were to alter the pattern to have a sweetheart neckline, a solid shoulder strap and a more prevalent point at the bottom. Sadly, I did not think of doing this! TIP: Do not use ribbon for the lace in the back, use a shoe lace!

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
For the skirt, I used a full circle skirt pattern like this. I used two layers of felt in two different blues. I thought this would be a great idea since I needed a scalloped edge and felt doesn’t fray! Some issues I ended up having with this skirt was that it was really really hot due to two layers of felt, FAIL! The thickness of the felt also added bulk, which gave the illusion that my bottom half was a lot bigger than it actually is… I SWEAR IT WAS THE FELT! Another issue was that it did not have the pleats that Anna’s skirt does.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Hat- This was just a mess, I used my own measurements to make my own pattern. It was ok, but the ear flaps wouldn’t lay down to my face, nor would it stay on my head very well.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Mittens? Nah, didn’t make them this round.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Blue undershirt-I just bought a light blue button up shirt from Wal-Mart. Again, this was ok, it fit and functioned well, but did not have the accurate, decorative detailing, nor did it have a mandarin collar.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Boots- I simply searched on E-bay for some black boots that were the similar style as Anna’s, something like these. I then used yellow puffy paint to paint on the details on the front and back of the boots. I also used pink acrylic paint for the soles.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Cape- I used the only Frozen pattern that was available for adults at the time. I think the pattern for the cape is great! I would not change this, and I didn’t! For the first time around I used a fuchsia flannel fabric for the exterior and a much darker fuchsia lining fabric for the lining. It felt solid and authentic, I loved it! For the decorative pom poms that Anna has around the mini cape, I used the same color as the main fabric, which was a mistake. Anna’s pom poms are a dark purple, the purple really makes the cape pop with depth. I also left out the dark purple edging design that is found on Anna’s cape, which was also a mistake. The closure that holds the cape at the neck was not accurate to Anna’s, I simply found a closure at Joann’s, and picked the only one that had a heart.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Embroidery- At the time, I didn’t have a machine that would embroider designs that were larger than 4 inches. My only option was to hand embroider each design onto the bodice and skirt. This took FOREVER, just as you would think. I drew on the designs by hand, and then embroidered over the design. My designs were a bit inconsistent, and too small. I realized this halfway through and just didn’t have the patience to start over.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Overall, this project really helped me learn a lot! The mistakes that I made, made me realize to do my best the first time rather than glazing over things, or leaving details out. Details are SO IMPORTANT! Research, and gather as many reference photos as possible, so you don’t miss something.

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The finished product of the first attempt:

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; color: #3a4145; font-family: "Exo 2", sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.75em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

I never know what to write in the very first posts of new blogs, so I’ll keep it short. I have many passions which include: sewing, crocheting and cosplaying. The main reason I started this blog was to document and share my creations with the world, and hopefully promote my Etsy store. I hope to connect to other cosplayers and provide any help I can!ThexWalkingxMermaidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10070877203928442507noreply@blogger.com0
